At MammaMaternity we have a shared goal to empower and improve women's maternity experiences by ensuring they feel seen, supported, safe and equipped through every stage of the perinatal period. With a special consideration for black mothers (inc expectant), who are more likely to face health inequalities and negative maternity experiences.

Why we exist?

Too often, parents feel underprepared when labour begins and struggle to settle into the new normal. Labour struggles are amplified by under/overpacking and forgetting information when the pressure gets high, whilst the fourth trimester gets forgotten all together. Too many times, parents feel overwhelmed settling home - several feeds, postpartum blues, lack of sleep and hectic environment. We exist to make this transition easier and bridge the gaps that exist in maternity and women's health currently - for all!

Not to mention the question:

"Am I doing everything correctly?"

MammaMaternity fills those gaps. Our midwife-led organisation makes the practical and conscious effort to provide: empowerment, education and peace of mind.

Equity

Because information/care that is accessible for each woman is vital for them to have a fair choice in their birthing outcome / experiences

Empowerment

Education is an important first step to better outcomes

Empathy

We listen to women’s experiences/feedback to note trends and gaps in their experiences

Advocacy for Black Women

As black female founder and black women having the highest mortality rates, it is important we have their voices heard and choices respected

Wellness

Health is a vital step mothers should prioritise to improve the quality of one's life in all aspects , small steps at a time

Our Mission

To improve birthing experiences and reduce maternal mortality. We know education is the first step, but many women are left unable to comprehend and lack the appropriate tools to assist them at a very important time in their life.

Which is why, we promise to deliver care and tools that honour women's experiences and help close the gap in maternal outcomes

Founders Story

MammaMaternity was born from the lived experiences of Shantel’s mother and aunt, both of whom endured traumatic births rooted in racial bias. These experiences left a profound, lasting impact on them and their families during the postpartum period, fueling the mission to ensure no other family faces the similar struggles. During her undergraduate years , Shantel discovered her calling to not only help families on the ward , but reach those beyond.
